What is it?

If you are unfamiliar with the Roller Coaster Tycoon franchise, then allow me to give you the briefest of primers on the series. The franchise has been around since 1999 with many different titles released under the banner. They all vary in different ways but the thrust of the game has always been construction, simulation, and management of a theme park.

As a tycoon of the amusement variety, it is your job to build a park that will have fun seekers flocking to get a spin on your rides and spend all their money in your park. Along the way, you will have to ensure the safety of your patrons by maintaining your park and keeping it well staffed. Like so many other simulation games, it's all about resource management and strategy. Most importantly, it can be a lot of fun.

How is it different from other Roller Coaster Tycoon Games?

The game's developers have said that Roller Coaster Tycoon Adventures is an attempt to create "an accessible and fun entry point to the series". That being said, it seems as if Adventures will be chock full of the sort of depth that will delight even the long-time players of the series. All of the mechanics that you have come to love in the franchise will be present along with the addition of other elements.

Adventures will feature a choose your own adventure type of mechanic wherein you be presented with a difficult decision which could end up having long-term ramifications on the future of your park.

The game was built in Unity just like the free-to-play mobile version of the game. This means that there will be some similarities with that version. However, the developers have stated that there will be none of those pesky microtransactions within the Switch version.

When can you have it?

Fortunately for fans that can't wait to get their funnel cake stained hands on Roller Coaster Tycoon Adventures for the Switch, the wait won't be too long. The doors to the park open to the public on December 13, 2018. For only $50 you can start building your mind-blowing theme park just in time for Christmas.
