- Ternus took over Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering from Dan Riccio back in January.
Back in January, Apple announced that Dan Riccio would be stepping down from his role as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering in order to take on a secret project. John Ternus, who has worked under Riccio, assumed the role at the same time.
If you're wondering what Dan Riccio is working on now, a report from Bloomberg says that he has taken over the company's AR and VR efforts.
Tim Cook had applauded both moves in the announcement, saying he was excited for what innovations they will continue to bring to life.
"Every innovation Dan has helped Apple bring to life has made us a better and more innovative company, and we're thrilled that he'll continue to be part of the team. John's deep expertise and wide breadth of experience make him a bold and visionary leader of our Hardware Engineering teams. I want to congratulate them both on these exciting new steps, and I'm looking forward to many more innovations they'll help bring to the world."

John Ternus is Apple's senior vice president of Hardware Engineering, reporting to CEO Tim Cook. John leads all hardware engineering, including the teams behind iPhone, iPad, Mac, AirPods, and more.John joined Apple's Product Design team in 2001 and has been a vice president of Hardware Engineering since 2013. Throughout his tenure at Apple, John has overseen hardware engineering work on a variety of groundbreaking products including every generation and model of iPad, the latest iPhone lineup, and AirPods. He has been a key leader in the ongoing transition of the Mac to Apple silicon.Prior to Apple, John worked as a mechanical engineer at Virtual Research Systems. He holds a bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Pennsylvania.
Apple is expected to release new iMacs as well as a new MacBook Pro later this year, projects that now fall under the vision of Ternus.
